Photos from Saturday May 1:
I attended Saturdays’ programming. The event started slowly at 10 AM with gourd dancing, By 1 PM, the gymnasium was overflowing with people. Overall, it was very successful. One great-uncle, aunt, and cousin even drove from Houston for the event.
My main complaint was in the area of food. The usual pow-wow “fair food” like frybread, Indian Tacos, and brisket was not offered this time. Instead, the Rising Sun Youth Group sold Frito Pie, sausages, nachos, and other more generic carnival foods.
More importantly, there were no traditional foods available for purchase. Tamales were provided for dancers but I was surprised nobody was selling tamales on-site. I was lucky enough to be given a couple of yummy tamales made by Mr. Dick Sepulvado.
